Humanely Harvested: dog hair is NOT weird!

shearing alpaca

Once you see the difference between harvesting dog hair and any more conventional wool type, you will understand why Kendall Crolius said: “Better a sweater from a dog you know and love than a sheep you’ll never meet!” Dog hair is NOT weird. My friend Ann (that’s her real name)…

Harvest Time: Spring into Saving Dog Hair!

Spring for dog owners isn’t just about turning the clock forward; it’s about a lot of brushing. This is a great time, if not the best time to start saving dog hair! For double-coated dogs, even the brief warm-up episodes in March that trigger the irises and daffodils to sprout…

Fur in Bloom: dog hair flowers

The Wonders of Oils for Dogs’ Coats

We all know a healthy coat when we see one; it’s shiny, full, and begging somehow to be touched. We have a special appreciation for healthy coats in our business, because a healthy coat makes a great fiber. Great fiber spins well and knits well. There is just nothing like…

The Shed Squad has lost another member. Our beloved Clarence the Snugglepup left us today after a nine-month battle to regain his quality of life, following a bout of vertigo last May. We now believe that the vertigo was caused by a brain tumor that thwarted every effort we made to make Clarence feel better.
My little angel now rejoins his beloved pack mates Buster, Fuzzy, and Chloe. He is survived by Shadow, Sally, George and me, as well as legions of friends and neighbors who loved his sunny demeanor, his cuddly nature, and his boundless capacity to love despite the miserable circumstances at the beginning of his life. I will miss him terribly.

This article reflects a number of things that the Shed Squad and I are experiencing now. As the boys age and we all grieve Chloe’s passing, there is comfort and healing, even in the most unexpected places. Thought I would share it with all of you.
